A RACING ‘MYSTERY’
(New Zealand Press Association)
WELLINGTON, Sept. 6. Fairford's trip to Australia has been postponed. This followed his failure in the Wanganui Guineas on Saturday. Plans were for Fairford to be flown to Australia next week, the booking to be confirmed on Monday. Instead. Fairford will be nominated for the Hawke’s Bay Guineas and if he races satisfactorily he may leave for Australia in October.
The connexions could find no explanation for Fairford’s shock defeat at Wanganui. It is one of those “mysteries of racing,” they said. When Fairford paraded for the Guineas his trainer, J. A. McFarlane, considered him fit and better than on the first day. There appeared nothing wrong with Fairford after the race and he ate up when he returned home to Otaki that night.
