Few Attend Meeting On Hornby Town Hall
Thirteen persons, including the chairman and secretary, attended a meeting of the Hornby Residents’ Association to discuss a proposal for a Hornby town hall. Among others who attended were the Paparua County Council’s chairman (Mr R. J, Roberts) and the Hornby
County Town Committee's chairman (Mr H. W. Bennett). The secretary of the Residents’ Association (Mr D. A. Guyton) said the attendance was disappointing. The association was trying to get started a project which was of interest to the whole' of Hornby, and the time to get it started was now. He had sent 150 letters to persons, some of whom had told him they would attend, and the small number present was the result. Mr Roberts said he wu disappointed in the attendance, but be could assure those present that the county council was very much in favour of the idea of a Hornby town hall. “It will be a tough job to get it started," he said. After the meeting he said there was no provision in the Hornby district development scheme for a town hall site. Mr Bennett sal dthat as Hornby grew, les land for such a project would be available, The Hornby County Town Committee had a genuine wish to see something done about a town hall. The chairman of the Residents’ association (Mr P, A. Luke) said the project was not really starting from scratch, as the association had some money which could be earmarked for a town hall. However this was not nearly enough.
The meeting agreed that the association should elect a town hall committee from within its own ranks with power to co-opt to investigate the proposal.
