Rest Room Bombed
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) JACKSON (Mississippi), August 30. An explosion caused by a small bomb thrown into a rest room, last night rocked the office of the Pulitzer Prizewinning editor. Hazel Brannon Smith. There were no injuries. Mrs Smith, who lives in Lexington, Mississippi, recently printed editorials condemning the murder of three civil rights workers near Philadelphia, Mississippi. Mrs Smith, who was in Atlantic City attending the Democratic national convention, won the Pulitzer Prize this year for her editorials against racial violence. I
Musical Evening. Sixty members and friends of the. English Speaking Union attended a musical evening on Monday. They were welcomed by. the president (Mr J. H. Wakefield). Artists who gave items were Mrs Lois Macdonald (vidin), Mrs Heather Taylor (soprano). Miss Ellen Doyle (’cello), Mr Alex Robson (brass-baritone). Mr R. Perks and Mrs Maisie McNair were the accompanists. The artists were thanked Iby Mr E. R. D’Anvers.
