“SOUVENIR” THEFTS

Towels And Scalpels (N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, September 1. A 40-year-old male nurse, James Gordon Liston Gilroy, who took “souvenirs” from five hospitals in which he was employed during the last three years, pleaded guilty to five charges of theft when he appeared before Mr J. D. Willis, S.M, today. He was fined a total of £l5 10s, in default of immediate payment of £9 10s, 10 days Imprisonment Detective Senior-Sergeant J. K. Hamilton said that between January 18 and September 22, 1961, Gilroy was employed by the Wellington Hospital Board. When he left he took two pillow cases, a towel and a tray cloth. Between January 14 and February 22, 1962, he was employed by the Tauranga Hospital Board. When he left he took a dressing sheet and a towel. From Waipukurau Hospital, where he was employed from September, 1963, to January 1, 1964, he took a tray cloth.

He was employed at Taumaranui Hospital from June 11 to July 12 this year and took five syringes and three scalpels valued at 5s 9d. Since then he had been employed at the Parkside Hospital, Dunedin, and had taken seven towels, one face flannel, four pillow cases and one sheet, when he left on August
