Jim Clark is expected to bring a special 2.5-litre version of the formula one Lotus to New Zealand next year, and Bruce McLaren will bring two special Coopers. One will be driven by Phil Hill. It is not yet known if John Surtees will come, but if he does he will drive a 2.5-litre Ferrari. Innes Ireland may come with a V 8 B.R.M. ¥ ¥ ¥ The Association of New Zealand Car Clubs would shift its headquarters from Dunedin to Wellington, it
was decided at the annual conference. Racing promoters were recommended to split saloon car races into three classes this season: factory standard, modified, and all-comers. ¥ ¥ ¥ Five Gold Star races will be held in the South Island and three in the North Island in the coming season. They are: Renwick, November 14; Mount Maunganui, January 2; Pukekohe, January 9; Levin, January 16; Wigram, January 23; Teretonga, January 30; Dunedin Festival road race, February 6; Waimate, February 13. Seven hill climbs—only one in the South Island—have been granted Gold Star status. ¥ ¥ ¥ Championship beach races will be held at Tahunanui beach, Nelson, the New Zealand championship on January 4 and the South Island championship on June 5. ¥ ¥ ¥
Six North Island and four South Island rallies will have Gold Star status. The South Island ones are: Rallies and Trials Enthusiasts’ Club, March 20-21; North Otago Car Club, April 24-25; Canterbury Car Club, May 22-23; Otago Sports Car Club, June 26. ¥ ¥ ¥
The organisers have announced that the Triumph 2000 is among the cars eligible to compete in the under 2000 c.c. class of the Mobilgas Economy Run.
