HEMLOCK CLEARED
Grew Near Schools Hemlock which had been found on waste land around three Lyttelton schools last year had been cleared after the Education Department had been informed, a meeting of the group committees administering the control of noxious weeds in the area between the Waimakariri and Rakaia rivers and on Banks Peninsula was told on Wednesday. The representative of the Peninsula area (Mr H. W. Fawcett) said the hemlock had not reappeared. Hemlock at the Selwyn Huts and Coes Ford was sprayed for the protection of visitors, said the field supervisor for the Halswell, Paparua and Springs group, Mr F. E. Hoskin. Mr Fawcett said hemlock needed following up. Like barley grass, if the seeding could be stopped for about two years, the weed disappeared.
