CADET COURSE
60 Boys Training As N.C.O.S Sixty senior boys from all secondary schools in Canterbury are attending a cadet course at West Melton for qualification as non-commis-sioned officers. The course will finish on September 4 with a field day. This is the first course to be held at West Melton. The cadets will go through the new system of specialised training, which includes jungle training, navigation, and the establishing of bases.
Drug Peddling.—Settimo (Big Sam) Accardi, aged 61, described by the Government as a leading importer of illegal narcotics, was sentenced yesterday to 15 years in gaol and fined 16,000 dollars.—New York,. August 25.
