PARADE IN WELLINGTON
Queen’s Guides’ Plans About 150 Queen’s guides from all parts of New Zealand will take part in a parade with Queen's scouts at Government House, Wellington, on September 4. They will be the guests of the Governor-General (Sir Bernard Ferguson) and Lady Fergusson, who is Dominion president of the New Zealand Girl Guides’ Association.
The parade will be attended by the Commonwealth Chief Commissioner (Miss Anstice Gibbs), who wiU then be on a tour of New Zealand, and the Chief Commissioner for New Zealand (Miss Ruth Herrick).
The Wellington association will provide hospitality for the visitors, who will be in Wellington for about three days. On Thursday, September 3, the guides will assemble and details of the programme will be discussedNext day they will join Queen’s scouts on a visit to Parliament Buildings in the morning, to be followed by ah assembly in the Council Chamber where the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) will speak to them. After lunch they will march with the scouts to Government House, where Sir Bernard Fergusson will inspect and address the parade. In the evening guides and scouts will be entertained at a dance.
On the Saturday morning Queen’s guides will join Wellington guides and brownies at Queen Margaret College to welcome Miss Gibbs and will have lunch with her later. They will be taken on a sightseeing tour in the afternoon before returning to their homes. Miss Gibbs and Miss Herrick will be the guests of their Excellencies at Government House from September 3 to .5. Miss Gibbs will arrive in Christchurch for a short visit on September 9.
