STUDENTS TO GO TO INDONESIA

Between 40 and 50 New Zealand students would visit Indonesia later this year to help spread goodwill and foster the relationship of the two countries, the departing Indonesian Ambassador to New Zealand and Australia, Brigadier Suadi, said today. He was speaking before leaving to return to Djakarta at the end of his three-year tour of duty.
Brigadier Suadi said an advance group of five or six students would leave probably in a few weeks and the main group would follow in November. The New Zealand students would be given an opportunity to meet their counterparts in various parts of Indonesia and to tour the republic. He hoped that next year a party of Indonesian students wouid make a reciprocal visit to New Zealand. Brigadier Suadi remarked that Australia appeared willing to continue to train Indonesian army officers.
He said that at present two Indonesian National Army officers were undergoing courses with the Australian Army in Victoria. At the same time an Australian staff officer was attending the Indonesian staff college at Bandung, West Java. Australian Role Referring to the Malaysian dispute. Brigadier Suadi said he thought Australia could play a role in bringing both parties “closer together;” but would not elaborate. The departing ambassador urged firmer trade ties between the two countries as the basis of a closer relationship.
