In Fathers' Footsteps

The soccer match between Canterbury and Wellington at the Basin Reserve last Saturday recalled memories of a game between the same two provinces, on the same ground, in 1937. Opposing wing-halves on Saturday were Canterbury’s 17-year-old A. Gowans and Wellington's D. Gendall. They were two of the outstanding players in the game—as were their fathers for the same teams 27 yean age.
