Three persons narrowly escaped death in two spectacular fires—one a burning car and the other a blazing house—in Lower Hutt on Saturday evening. Two of them were treated and discharged at hospital and the third escaped injury. At 9.15 p.m. a young man pulled Miss Josephine Jensen, aged 25, of Seatoun Heights, Wellington, from her blazing car on the Western Hutt road, seconds before the petrol tank exploded. He was rounding a bend in his own car when he saw a car strike the hillside, roll on to its side and burst into flames. With another motorist he kicked in a rear window and got the woman out She was taken to hospital and discharged after treatment Minute* later the fire brigade received a call to a house fire in Porutu street. The two occupants were temporarily trapped by flames and smoke but escaped through a window.
