WELLINGTON, August 24. An average increase of £331 a year in the salaries of New Zealand’s 1150 members of university staffs is indicated in today’s announcement of new salary rates and scales for university academic and senior nonacademic staff. The new salaries are covered by an allocation of additional grants to

universities amounting to £381,000. As the new salaries have been made retrospective to April 1, this represents the estimated additional cost for a full year of the new salaries. The new rates range from increases of £lOO for assistant or junior lecturers’ in the general department to £450 and more for professors.
