Competitions Festival Commences In Timaru

TIMARU, Aug. 24.
Competitors below the age of 15, and 15 and under 18 paraded in street and party wear, respectively, in modelling classes introduced for the first itme at the Timaru Competitions Society’s twelfth annual festival of entertainment and talent at the Scottish Hall, Timaru, this evening. The official opening was performed by the Mayoress (Mrs C. E. Thomson). Entries total 1300 and there are 38 entries in the modelling section, which includes a class for competitors over 18. An aggregate “glamour” prize will go to the entrant in any class who obtains the highest aggregate marks in her section. The award, presented by the Mount Cook and Southern Lakes Tourist Company, Ltd., in conjunction with the Tourist Hotels Corporation, covers a trip for two from Timaru to Mount Cook by luxury coach, and then by air to Queenstown and return.
