Wide Damage In Japan

TOKYO, Aug. 24. Typhoon Kathy, with powerful centre winds of 86 miles an hour, swept through southwestern Japan today, causing widespread damage. Police said one person was killed, another was missing, and 11 were injured. The storm wreaked damage to four prefectures—Kagoshima, Miyazaki, Kumamoto and Oita—as, at a slow six miles an hour, it cut through southern and central Kyushu Although the winds had dropped to 67 miles an hour at midnight, Japanese meteorologists feared the typhoon would cause more damage as it headed toward northern Kyushu.
