The New Zealand colt, Fairford, which was Heavily backed on Saturday for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups, Is booked to leave New Zealand by plane for Melbourne on September 14. the Melbourne “Sun” reported today. His owner, Mr J. Wattle, told the “Sun" this by telephone from his home at Hastings yesterday. Fairford will go into the quarters occupied by Even Stevens at R. Shaw's Flemington stables, Melbourne, when that horse won the Cups double in 1962. Mr Wattle said Fairford was not hurt in Saturday's fall at Foxton and exeroised freely at the Otakl track yesterday. Because Fairford had only 7-1 in the Cups, L. Coles, who rode Even Stevens, could not ride him. Coles has been offered the mounts on Fairford in the Caulfield Guineas, Victoria Derby and other races where the weights were suitable, Mr Wattle said. ' Meanwhile, the Liston Stakes winner. Craftsman, has firmed to equal Caulfield Cup favouritism with the Sydney colt, Eskimo Prince.
