CHILD’S DEATH
Dysentery Blamed (N.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL, Aug. 24. Bacillary dysentery which has affected more than 250 people in Invercargill since December is believed to have contributed to the death on Saturday of a girl of three. The girl, Kim Arthur, younger daughter of Mr and Mrs Rob Arthur, of 531 Yarrow street, died in Kew Hospital. The Medical Superintendent (Dr. H. Hunter) confirmed today that bacillary dysentery had contributed to the girl’s death. Kew Hospital had a number ,of baciilary dysentery cases, said Dr. Hunter, Most of them were serious for only a short time and most of the patients were young.
The Southland Medical Officer of Health, Dr. T. R. Fogg, said 41 cases were reported last week —and 19 of these were reported on Thursday
