All major European currencies gained on. the £ last week. Canadian and New York dollars continued to harden, but Eastern currencies remained unchanged. ' Altered telegraphic transfer exchange rates advised yesterday by the Bank of New South Wales on:— New Zealand on— New York: buying. 2.7811 dollars to £NZ (compared with 2.7829 dollars on August 17); selling, 2.7496 dollars <2.7514). Austria: 72.18 schillings (72.20): 70.86 schillings (same) Belguim: 139.20 francs (139.30); 136.26 francs (same). Canada; 2.9983 dollars (3.0004); 2:9600 dollars (2.9621). Denmark: 19.39 kroner (19.38): 18.97 kroner (same). France: 13 71 francs (13.72); 13 45 francs (same). Italy: 1747 lire (1749); 1710 lire (1711). Netherlands: 10.11 guilders (same); 989 guilders (9.90). Norway: 20 04 kroner (same): 19.61 kroner (19 62). Spain: no buying quote; 163.90 pesetas (164.00). Sweden; 14.37 kroner (14.38); 14 10 kroner (same). Western Germany: 11.12 Deutsche Marks (11.13); 10.90 Deutsche Marks (same).
