Many Uses For Apples
Simple, easy - to - prepare foods for the housewife are being shown by Maxine Graham on the Apple and Pear Board’s stand at the Food Fair at Canterbury Court. Mrs Graham, a culinary specialist, prepares recipes
using apples or apple juice, in dishes ranging from salads to meat dishes and deserts She likes to explain the preparation of the dishes to housewives personally rather than demonstrate to a crowd,* and gives recipes to anyone who is interested. Yesterday afternoon Mrs Graham had an attractive display of apple juice moulds, both savoury and sweet, an apple upside-down cake, and apple fruit salad. Each evenI ing Mrs Graham cooks a meat dish in apple juice. She also demonstrates how a table should be set for a dinner party or a buffet meal. Mrs Graham has never had lessons in cooking and thinks this is to her advantage as she has a fresh approach to cooking and is willing to try things people with diplomats jin home science think impost sible. i “I collect recipes and have many thousands." she said. "1 have had to have a bookcase built especially to put them in. I also spend a lot of time reading overseas articles and magazines to keep up with what is new in food.” Mrs Graham does promotional work for many food
producing companies, prepares food for photographs for recipe books and advertisements. and is. interested in the promotion of New Zealand food overseas. “I like the work and find there is ample opportunity for creative outlet in cooking,” said Mrs Graham. She is also interested in fashions and art and intends to work with fashions in the future. When she has time Mrs Graham likes to cook elaborate dishes, but while she is working she concentrates on simpler foods.
