CONVINCING WIN BY NELSON COLLEGE
Although Wanganui Collegiate School had in R. G. Trott the best forward of the match and its backs attacked with dash and enterprise in the early stages, Nelson College proved to be the stronger team and won convincingly. Neither set of backs met with success from set play because of the unimaginativeness of the Wanganui second five-eighths, R. A. Dermer, and the inability of the Nel son first five-eighths, C. H Morris, to pass the ball without slowing almost to a halt. But in broken play the ball was moved purposefully and Nelson scored some good tries as a result. M. E. Loveridge and D. A. Irving, the wings, were always looking for chances and A. W. McDowell, the halfback, and S. H. D. Reaney, a flanker, were two of the best runners with the ball from broken play. The Morris brothers, C. H. and C. R., gained valuable ground with their powerful punting. Trott, captain and prop for Wanganui, was unrelenting in his efforts for his side. He excelled in running, tackling, saving and rucking and frequently handled more than
once in an attack —and then ' got back to make a tackle when the movement broke down. For Nelson College, Loveridge (2), T. G. Whiteman and W. A. F. Leahy scored tries, C. R. Morris converting two and kicking a penalty goal. M. W. N. Barron scored a try for Wanganui Collegiate.
