Competition Winners Lose Last Game
Rebels caused yet another upset when they beat the competition winners, Rex A. In the women's indoor basketball competition at Cowles Stadium last evening. Previously unbeaten, Rex A failed to settle down in the early stages of the game, and although it made a determined bid in the second half it failed to bridge the gap, and lost, 20-18. Rebels started determinedly and quickly scored against an unsettled Rex team. Rebels’ defence worried Rex. and bad passing cost Rex possession on many occasions. Hard driving by B. Humphreys and accurate set shooting by C. Ogilvie paved the way for Rebels’ success. Ogilvie scored 12 of her team's noints, while J. Taylor was Rex’s top-scorer with eight points. B. Taylor and A. Sinclair, of Rex. defended solidly, but the Rebels’ combination drove repeatedly to score. The other A grade fixture, between Rangiora and Brighton,
ln a w,n ,or Brighton, 22-13. The game was unimpressive, with patches of good play by both teams. Brighton's defence was light, and Rangiora resorted to set shooting. J Hudson passed well, and J. Megan, with splendid rebounding, gave Rangiora ample possession of the ball. However, shots did not find the ring. Brighton moved the ball well and quick passing enabled a forward, S. Chamberlain, to - ii of her team's points. D. Entwhistle did a good job in the centre position for Brighton. Results:— A Grade.—Brighton 22. Rangiora 13; Rebels 20. Rex A 18. „ B Grade.—Y Girls A 20.
