ANNUAL ICE HOCKEY
NX-Born Wins P.G.G. Cup The New Zealand-born ice hockey team won the Pyne, Gould. Guinness Cup for the fourth year in succession when it beat an overseas-born team. 9-7, in the annual match yesterday. The New Zealand team coin bined better throughout and at the end of the first period, had a commanding lead, of 6-3. The play was very even, but the New Zealand shooting was much more accurate than that of the overseas team In the second period. Over-seas-borne played much more strongly, and scored twice from good passing plays, while New Zealand only managed to find the net once. Both sides were firing in the final period, and play deteriorated slightly, though the game remained even. Scorers were: — New Zealand: D. Fisher 3. M. Cotter 2. N. Hole 2. P. Wright. G. Atkinson. Overseas: B. Offord 2. B. O’Conner, H. van der Velden, S. Walters, J. Bcgej, J. Brizzell. Referees: Messrs R Cooper and B. Lester.
