Harriers Hat-Trick Of Victories
(N.Z. Press Association) MASTERTON, August 23. The Onehunga club, of Auckland, completed a hat-trick on Saturday when it won the annual Wellington-Masterton harrier road relay race for the third successive time. Its time lor the -63-mile race, split, into 10 laps, was shrs 32min 37sec, about 7imin outside the record set in 1961 by the Owairaka team, also from Auckland, and about lisec slower than last year’s time. Onehunga took the lead in the third lap, after the Olympic runner, J. L. Davies (Putaruru), had opened a lead in the first lap, and was never headed.
CHRISTCHURCH AND OLYMPIC.—The Christchurch Technical and Olympic Harrier Clubs' annual contest for Tech./Oly. Olley Shield at Spreydon School was won by Olympic by 42 points to 45 points. Colts: L. Searle ran well to win the colts championship when the St. Martins club held their colts’ and women’s championship events over a course in the St. Martins-Rapaki area on Saturday. Searle, who has been unbeaten in colts club races, won by about ssec. L. Bates was an easy winner in the women’s championship event. Colts: A.. Searle 1, D. Thomson 2, W. Dangerfield 3. Women: L. Bates 1, M. Tallot 2, R. Searle 3. The senior men’s weekly club run was held over a 121-mile circuit on the Cashmere" Hills. Results: J. Drew 1, W. Dukes 2, K. Liggett 3.
