Drove Hearse At 72m.p.h.

(N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON, Aug. 5. "You are lucky still to be in the driver’s seat.” an undertaker who was caught driving a hearse at 72 m.p.h. was told by Mr N. M. Izard, S.M., at Huntly today. Earlier, the Magistrate had made similar remarks about an undertaker’s assistant who had overtaken a truck in a no-passing zone. The hearse driver was Cornelius Patrick Little, of Mount Albert, who pleaded guilty to exceeding the speed limit. He was fined £7. He was observed near Ohinewai by Traffic Officer S. R. Fleming, of Te Kauwhata, at 8.30 p.m., on May 30.

Thomas Gordon Dean, of Remuera, was fined £lO and

costs for illegal overtaking. He was disqualified from holding a driver’s licence for three months. Traffic Officer Fleming said that on May 22, at Te Kauwhata, he had seen Dean overtake a truck in an area marked with a double white line.
