Lordship In Splendid Trial For Addington

Lordship returned a sparkling performance when he overcame his handicap of 36 yards and gained a runaway win in the 2min llsec class pace at the trials held at Addington Raceway yesterday. Lordship sprinted up to the lead between the three and the two furlongs and then drew away from his rivals to win as he liked by five lengths.

Lordship sprinted his final quarter in 28 3-ssec and showed that he was right at his peak for early spring engagements. He will not race until the second night of the meeting on August 22 when he will contest the National Handicap.

Jay Ar paced a splendid race for second behind Lordship, while Deft, Morano Boy and Orbiter, the next three to finish also went pleasingly. All of them look to have come up well and they should be prominent in the next few months.

Junior Royal ran out and collided with Chiffon at the start of the 2:11 pace, while Van Rush, Urrall, Cairnbrae, Grouse and Doctor Dan were slow. Junior Royal tangled again at the end of four furlongs and a half, just after Peel had worked to the front from Garry Logan, with Vanderford, Deft, Orbiter, Morano Boy and Admit close up. Lordship was about eleventh at the half-mile and a furlong later he was pulled out. He sprinted round the field and had a clear lead at the two furlongs. He led Peel and Vanderford by two lengths at the straight entrance, where Jay Ar, Garry Logan, Deft, Morano Boy, Doctor Dan, Avante and Orbiter were showing up. Lordship cleared away from his rivals and won as he liked by about five lengths after taking 3:27 2-5 for the 13 furlongs, the last half-mile in 1:1 2-5, and the final quarter in 28 3-5.

Jay Ar finished comfortably to take second place by a length from Deft, which finished strongly after being prominent throughout. Morano Boy also came home well for fourth another length back, shading Orbiter, which

had something in reserve after being late working clear.

Admit was a fair sixth, ahead of Garry Logan, with Peel, Vanderford, King Hal, Doctor Dan and Avante following. Cairnbrae wqs at the rear throughout after a slow start. Raft’s Win Raft raced in the middle of the field until the half-mile in the first heat of the 2.13 pace. He then improved and took a short lead near the two furlongs. He was hotly challenged in the straight, but held on well to win by a head in 3:33 for the 13 furlongs. the last half-mile in 60 1-5, and the final quarter in 30 1-5. Raft should be capable of making a bold showing in the Louisson Handicap, the main race on the first day of the meeting. Safe Return, which was a shade slow early, paced a fine race afterwards and finished strongly for second, just ahead of another determined finisher in Bluff. The pacemaker, Anarca Direct, was right up fourth, half a length in front of Marquess. Lochgair, one of the topranked three-year-olds of last season, made up ground in the straight to finish sixth, ahead of Rustic Lad, Ahumai and Massacre, which had been last away. Soanfra, a candidate for the Templeton Handicap on the first day of the meeting, won the second heat, also

recording 3:33, the last halfmile in 1:4 2-5 and the last quarter in 30 2-5. Soanfra was prominently placed throughout and he ran on well. He could be in for a good season.

Rannaek Song, which broke early, showed spged to get up for second, just ahead of Admiral, which made a forward showing considering his long absence from racing. Van Rebeck, which started from 24 yards, paced a sound race for fourth, ahead of Lady Charles, which finished strongly along the rails. Lady Charles is a fit candidate for the Louisson Handicap. Gay Robin, Lyndhurst, Idaho and Flying Note were next to finish. Flying Note showed speed after beginning slowly. Light Mood broke at the start and finished last. The Trotters Little Smoke, driven by B. H. Lynskey, gained a narrow win over Pohutukawa in the 2:13 class trot. Control broke at the start, but recovered quickly and took the lead with 10 furlongs left. He set a fairly easy pace, with Pohutukawa moving up to second on the outside of Flying Maiden. Pohutukawa took the measure of Control on straightening up, with Little Smoke challenging on the outside. Little Smoke won by a head, but Pohutukawa looked to have much more in reserve. It was Pohutukawa’s first appearance since his campaign in Australia earlier in the year. Flying Maiden trotted a useful race for third a length back, two lengths in front of Doctor Kyle, with Safety Catch and Control following at intervals. Harbour Light and Winterlight broke at the straight entrance when at the tail of the field. Little Smoke recorded 3min 37sec for the 13 furlongs, the last half-mile in Imin 4 2-ssec.

Snow Globe gave a dashing display to win the 2:16 class trot. She took the lead with about nine furlongs left and was much too speedy for her rivals, winning untested by two lengths after recording 3min 34 2-ssec for the 13 furlongs, the last half-mile in Imin 3 3-5 sec, and the final quarter in 32 2-ssec. Snow Globe should do well in the Opening Handicap on the first day of the meeting. Field Chief, after losing a few lengths at the start, showed speed when properly balanced and he took second, clear of Oakleigh Lad and Medieval, with Fourina not far away. Asia Minor swung into a pace and broke when attempting to work clear near the furlong post. He finished sixth. Adioway’s Run Adioway recorded fastest time in the three heats of the 2:15 class pace. This brilliant but unsound member of G. B. Noble’s team has not raced for more than two seasons and it is problematical whether he will stand up to another preparation.

Adioway was prominently placed throughout the second heat and he came away to win very easily by one length and a half from Maggie Spangler after recording 3min 32 3-ssec for the 13 furlongs, the last half-mile in Imin 1 3-ssec, and the final quarter in 30 2-ssec.

Aiblins, after being handy all the way, was a sound third, ahead of Happy Ending, Pancho Boy, Robyn and Paddy’s Day.

Peerswick showed improved form when he won the first heat in 3min 34sec, the last half-mile in Imin 3sec, and the final quarter in 29 3-ssec. He won narrowly from Garcon dOr, which appeared to be pacing easijy They were clear of Balcairn, which made up ground to shade Adio Morn, with Fundamental and Flying Minstrel next. Carver Doon took the lead n fi? r half-mile in the other heat, and after being well clear at the furlong, hl held on to win by a length

from Mountain Song and Sentimental, both of which finished boldly. He, too, recorded 3min 34sec, taking Imin 2see for his last half-mile, and 31 l-ssec for his final quarter. Anterior paced a useful race for fourth, ahead of Happy Sam and Beliajily, both of which looked to have'something in reserve. Don Caesar and La Scala, which started from 36 yards, finished first and second respectively with two lengths between them in the second heat of the 2:20 class pace. Both made up a lot of ground and look to be fit horses for the Four-year-old Stakes on the first day of the meeting. Don Caesar recorded 3min 32 3-ssec for the 13 furlongs, the last half-mile in Imin 6 3-ssec. Palm Drive finished third, ahead of Compromise and Cindy. Queensway won the other heat in 3min 36 2-ssec, the last half-mile in Imin 5 2-5 sec. She won by a clear margin from Surely Not, with Tunnel Road making ground for third, ahead of Kings Gypsy.
