MISS ANS WESTRA, the 28-year-old author of the primary school bulletin, “Washday at the Pa,” with a copy of her work. All 38,000 copies of the bulletin are being withdrawn, because, according to a statement by the Minister of Education (Mr Kinsella), “it is clear the publication has given offence.” “Washday at the Pa” was recently criticised at the conference of the Maori Women's Welfare League. The objections were mainly on the ground that the living conditions of the family portrayed were not typical of Maori life.
