Hunting Scenes At Hunt’s Annual Ball
Red and black silhouettes of horses and hounds in hunting field scenes at the end of the ballroom of the Winter Garden were the feature of the decorations for the Christchurch Hunt’s annual ball on Tuesday. Tall massed floral arrangements in red and white, and banks of pot plants made an attractive setting for more than 550 guests. The guests were welcomed by the president and master of the Christchurch Hunt (Mr D. C. Gould) and Mrs Gould. Specially invited guests included: the master of the Brackenfield Hunt (Mr C. A. Macdonald) and Mrs Macdonald, the master of the Ashburton branch of the Christchurch Hunt (Mr W. R. Lemon) and Mrs Lemon, the master of the South Canterbury Hunt (Mr E. W. Kerr) and Mrs Kerr, and the master of the Starborough Hunt (Mr L. J. McLaughlin) and Mrs McLaughlin.
Members of the committee who organised the ball were: Mr and Mrs D. C. Gould, Mr and Mrs C. L. Austin, Mr and Mrs I. Gillanders, Mesdames R. Dailey and D. M. Lamb, and Misses H. Bedford and S. Greig.
Mrs Gould wore a formal sheath of rose-red satin brocade embroidered with gold and silver and designed with a fitting bodice featuring a swathed strap over one shoulder. Mrs C. L. Austin chose a full-length gown of sapphire blue made with a chiffon skirt draped to one side and caught with a rose and a lace bodice.
