BIG RISE IN DEPOSITS

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Aug. 4. Auckland Savings Bank officials are puzzled why their excess of deposits jumped to £1.3 million last month—over £500,000 more than the previous record for any month of £Bll,OOO set in July last year. “We can’t explain this increase, but it might be a reaction by people to the savings banks for trading banks issue,” said the assistant-gen-eral manager (Mr M. N. Corner) today. He said salary increases for Government employees and the opening of three new branches might have influenced the increase.
