CYCLISTS IN ACCIDENTS

Two Seriously Injured

Desmond Cheney Magrath, aged 64, of 34 Woodjiam road, suffered head injuries, a fractured pelvis and left thigh, abrasions and shock when his bicycle and a car collided at the corner of Fitzgerald avenue and Gloucester street on Monday, evening. Mr Magrath was taken to the Christchurch Hospital by a St. John ambulance. His condition was later reported to be serious. The accident happened about 7.50 p.m. The police are seeking witnesses of an accident in which a young man was seriously injured when his cycle hit the door of a transporter in Waltham road on Monday morning.

The man. Mr John Butler, aged 24, of 335 Eastern terrace, was cycling along Waltham road about 8.45 a.m. The transporter was parked near the steel yard of Nuttalls, Ltd. A passenger in the cab of the transporter opened the door and the cyclist hit it. Mr Butler was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital with severe head injuries. His condition was reported to be fair.
