COUNSELLOR AT SCHOOL

Board Gives

Approval

The Hillmorton High School board of governors has approved an application being made to the Education Department for an allowance of four half-days a week to permit Mrs E. M. Turtle to work as guidance counsellor in the school.

The headmaster (Mr O. W. G. Lewis) said too often a child became delinquent because his problems had not been faced and understood early enough. He recommended the appointment of Mrs Turtle, as she was wellsuited to the work and had a good standing with the staff and pupils. Mrs Turtle was at present girls’ careers adviser and the senior commercial teacher, said Mr Lewis. The chairman (the Rev. W. P. Eggleton), said that as a church social worker he was almost at his wits’ end after coping with emotionallyunadjusted children and he welcomed anything done to prevent or cure disturbances.
