End To Maori Seats Urged

(N Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL, July 20. Abolishing the four Maori seats in Parliament would mean the Maori people would have a better representation, Sir Turi Carroll, chairman of the Maori Council, said in Invercargill today. Sir Turi Carroll said religion played too big a part in Mauii politics. Until the four Maori seats were abolished all the Maori people would not be represented. Fifteen years ago the Maori people were told the seats would probably be abolished in 20 years. “We have only five years to wait now before something is done,” he said.
