4 HARRIERS SUSPENDED

Craig Out For Eight Weeks

Four Christchurch harriers have been suspended by the cross-country committee of the Canterbury Amateur Athletic Centre as a sequel to incidents at the Canterbury senior, cross-country championship at Loburn last Saturday. One of the four, a member of the University club, B. Craig, was suspended for eight weeks for attempting to compete without being officially entered for the race. He refused to obey a referee’s instruction to withdraw but was finally forced to pull out. The other three, R. Hardy (Presbyterian), D. W. Wells (Methodist), and R. Murray (Olympic), were each suspended for four Saturdays for running without advising the referee. None were officially entered. The Otago Athletic Centre is to be advised that K. Ragg (Otago University) also competed without being officially entered.

Championship Teams The Canterbury senior and men's junior teams to compete at the New Zealand championships on August 8 are: Senior.—G. Pyne, Dixey, J. Macdonald, E. Gray, W. Kennedy, R. Allen, B. Turner and R. Reekie. Emergencies: B. Jones and C. McDonnell.

Juniors —B. Dyer, E. Matthews, H. Neeson, A: Sim, L. Graham, M. Clarkson, J. Mcßrearty and K. Hamilton. Emergencies: T. Tayler and M. Smith. The following Canterbury women’s team will compete against an Auckland women’s team in an event to be staged in conjunction with the championship: P. Clausen, M. Dixey, L. Fisher, C. Horton, J. Horton, A. Kennedy. Emergencies: D. Dixey and K. Mackenzie.
