2 CHANGES IN HOCKEY
Women’s XI At Ashburton
Two changes have been made in the Canterbury A women’s hockey team
to play Ashburton at Ashburton on Saturday.
K. McKerrow has been replaced at inside-right by R. Kuskis and B. Turbott has become the left-wing in place of S. Rich.
The two changes made arouse considerable conjecture, says “The Press” women’s hockey correspondent. The selectors have apparently decided that the defence shall be unchanged—although several players are worthy of a chance in the A team—and yet are now tampering with the more vital organ, the forward line. McKerrow has presumably been left out because she could not get her right-wing away in the match against Malvern. Yet, in her place has been .chosen a player who is even less likely to do this. The position on the leftwing is a little different: there the choice lies between choosing the best player in that position, Rich, who has been performing very well this year, or another who has done some good things in her rightful position. Rich played in the first game, Turbott is to play at Ashburton. The more skilled players in the backs and halves are not to get a chance to prove their worth. A. Colville is still not the right-half: J. Witte (left or centre-half) is not even in the reserves; and the B team backs, J. Murray and L. Drummond, are similarly overlooked. The team is:—
B. Makinson; J. Gunn, Y. Turner: P. Anderson, L. Watson. A. Rouse; D. Eddy, R. Kuskis. G. Phillips, L. Rutledge, B. Turbott. Emergencies: K. McKerrow, A. Colville, and M. O'Brien.
The second grade team is:— J. Moher: D; Wilson, J. Poulson: C. Gardiner, S. Scott, J. Lowe: J. Timms, D. Evans, J. Watson, M. Mouat, H. Jackson. Emergencies: J. Fright and K. Davidson.
