APPEAL FOR EVIDENCE

Good Response Obtained (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 21. A response has been obtained to an appeal made yesterday by an Auckland solicitor, Mr P. A. Williams, for important evidence favourable to Ronald John Jorgensen.

Today Jorgensen’s chief solicitor said several people had telephoned his office. The 31-year-old Jorgensen is serving a life sentence for the Basset road machine-gun murder. Checks would have to be made before it could be determined how much of the information arising from the calls would be worth while, said Mr Williams. Announcing their intention to seek a new trial for Jorgensen on the grounds of fresh evidence, Mr Williams and his associate defence counsel, Mr K. L. Ryan, said yesterday they believed there were several people in the city who could help.
