Kaiapoi Rugby Club To Hold Public Meeting

A public meeting will be called soon by the Kaiapoi Rugby Club to discuss ways of strengthening Rugby in the northern area of Christchurch.

This was stated in a letter from the Kaiapoi Club received at a meeting of the management committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union last evening.

The letter asked if the committee could send three of its members, pre fe r a bly Mr J. O. Hattersley, Father O’Brien and Mr C. Rhodes, to attend the new promotionrelegation rule and any other matters of interest.

Earlier this year members of the management committee met the Belfast, Papanui, and Kaiapoi clubs and discussed Rugby in the area and the possibility of the three clubs amalgamating. Managers.—Mr D. B. Doake was appointed manager of the Canterbury , team to play Otago at Dunedin on August 8. Mr L. R. Southall was appointed manager of the team which will make a northern tour, playing Auckland, Waikato, Taranaki, and Wanganui.

Sports Medicine. The meeting decided it would become a member of the newly formed Canterbury Sports Medicine Association. Mr D. B. Doake said he had attended a meeting of the association and considered it would fulfil a worthwhile function from which Rugby would benefit.

Training Squads.— The following players have been chosen for the Canterbury B training squad—Backs: T. J. Morris, N. O’Brien, L. S. Taiaroa (University B), R. J. Vivian (University A), P. O’Malley, A. G. Steel. T. Mehrtens (Old Boys), K. Gimblett. T. Dawson (Linwood), R. J. Philan (Albion). Forwards: E. R. Leask (New Brighton), T. K. McDonald (University B), P. W. Lee (University A), F. R. Meyer (Oxford), J. Lamason (Hororata), M. Perkins (Sheffield), W. McCallum, J. S. Baird (Christchurch), B. Mason (Linwood), D. Hill (Old Boys). T. Norton (Waihora).

G. Loveridge (University A) and T. W. Hutchison (Waihora) were not available.

Training will be held at Rugby Park at 10.15 a.m. next SunSunday. —Advt.
