VACANCY ON BOARD
Death Of Mr A. J. Smith
A vacancy on the Christchurch Drainage Board caused by the death of Mr A. J. Smith, a Labour Party member, would not be filled, the board decided last evening.
If a member was appointed he would be able to attend only two meetings before the triennial election.
Mr Smith represented Linwood on the board for nine years.
He was a former member of the City Council and chairman of its works committee.
He had also served on the North Canterbury Catchment Board and the board of governors of Lincoln College.
A returned soldier from the First World War, he was formerly chairman of the Main Body Association of the Christchurch R.S.A.
