STRUCK BY CAR

Man and Wife

Injured

A middle-aged couple from the North Island who had just arrived in Christchurch and were carrying their luggage from the railway station were hit by a car last evening.

The wife had both legs broken. The husband suffered a broken leg and arm, and head, internal, and back injuries. His condition is serious. The condition of the wife, who was also admitted to the Christchurch Hospital, was reported to be fair late last night. The accident happened about 8 p.m. The couple were crossing Moorhouse avenue near the intersection of Manchester street, and the car carried both of them east along the road, the woman’s shoes being left on the pedestrian crossing. Neither was able to move, but both were conscious.

The police are withholding the names of the injured couple until relatives have been informed of the accident.
