CZECHS BUY WHEAT
Canada Sells 18m. Bushels (N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) WINNIPEG, July 19. Czechoslovakia has made an 18,300,000-bushel purchase of Canadian wheat, far more than expected. The deal, worth 36 million dollars, was negotiated by a Czech delegation with the Canadian Wheat Board. Grain traders were caught by surprise by the size of the deal. Under a five-year agreement signed last October the Communist bloc country was obligated to take 12,800,000 bushels in the first 12 months. Because the Czechs bought 4,400,000 bushels earlier, their remaining first-year obligation was only 8,400,000 bushels.
The Czechs will pay 10 per cent cash for the current purchase at time of shipment with the remainder in three equal instalments two, two and a half and three years later.
