Nichol Wins P.G.A. Match

Bobby Nichols, playing near-perfect golf, held off challenges from Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus to win the 100.000-dollar Profes sional Golfers’ Association tournament in Columbus today. Nichols took the lead in the first round with a brilliant six-under-par 64 and kept it throughout the tournament winning with a record score of 271. Palmer and Nicklaus were three strokes behind. The 28-year-old golfer from Louisville won a first prize of 18.000 dollars. Nichols had rounds of 64, 71. 69 and 67 over the 6851-yard course. R. J. Charles, of New Zealand, had a final score of 68-71-73-73—285. He tied for 19th position and won 1175 dollars to bring his season’s earnings to 25,097 dollars.
