Rugby League MARIST IN TOP FOUR
Discussion In Committee
Marist will play in the competition for the top four teams in the Canterbury Rugby League’s senior grade. This was decided at a meeting of the league’s management committee after a discussion of more than 30 minutes in committee.
The meeting had to decide which team. Marist or Addington. which had equal competition points, should play In the top four. When the issue was raised, the chairman <Mr D. C. Wilson) Immediately suggested the meeting go Into committee. Thirty minutes later he Issued a statement that Marist had been chosen to go Into the top four.
The following squads were chosen for training for the Town-Country match to be played as a curtain-raiser to the test match on August 1.
Town: P. V. Smith. C. C Preece. E. Kereopa, J. Haw thorne, P. M. White, T. Taml hana. D. McCosh, W. Karina. W J. Godfrey, R. H. Turton. P. L Doig. A. Tuuta, T. Parker. J H. Fisher, B. T. Barron, J. A Flanagan.
Country: P. J, Tongue. A. N Amer, B. W. Langton, J. M. Bray R. T. Bray, R. Moffat. 3. A. Bond R. Nieman, G. H. Clarke. M. L Cooke, I. T. Drayton, T. L. Bis man, E. J. Tavendale, D. Cow dick, G. T. Turner. G. C. Black ler, G. R. Cooper, D. Moore, J Smith.
The Country squad will train at the Showgrounds at 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday next week and the Town squad at Linwood Park at the same times.
The meeting decided to hold a seven-a-slde competition on September 12. All gate receipts wil go to the Injured players’ fund.
