BOWLING CENTRE
Successful Year
The last bowling season was “most successful,” the president of the Christchurch Bowling Centre (Mr W. W. Brough) told the annual meeting. Only one day of fixtures had to be cancelled because of rain. Local teams won two and drew one of the four main representative matches. In the sub-centre fixtures Christchurch won one and lost the other to the Ellesmere Sub-centre.
The number of players fell by 12 from 4985 to 4973, mainly because the Springfield club went into recess.
The Burnham Camp Bowling Club’s application and the re-affiliation of the Dunsandel club had been approved by the New Zealand Bowling Association. Mr W. J. Kean gave the centre a shield for the winning champion of champion four. The delegates decided to impose a levy of 6d on each player for ihe Turf Research Association and the Umpires’ Association.
Mr C. T. Lascelles said many delegates were not fully aware of the vast amount of work the Turf Research Association was doing to keep greens to such a high standard.
The centre made a grant of £5O but that was not sufficient, considering the increased costs. Officers elected were:—
President, Mr W. J. Cogswell; senior vice-president, Mr F. T. H. Bell; junior vicepresident, Mr J. A. Moloney; treasurer, Mr J. Owen; hon. auditor, Mr F. L. Murray; match committee, Messrs M. A. Le Cren, J. A. Moloney, J. R. Smith, F. T. H. Bell, H. W, Calvert: selectors, Messrs J. R. Smith, F. W. Larcombe, J. A. Moloney.
