TENNIS CUP SEMI-FINAL

Britain And France, 1-1 (N Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright ’ BRISTOL, July 17. An exciting win by P. Daemon, the French No. 1, put France level, 1-1, with Britain in their European zone semi-final of the Davis Cup tennis championship yesterday.

Darmon was completely out of touch at the start of his match against the British left-hander, W. A. Knight, but then after the match had swung dramatically several times he won, 0-6, 7-5, 6-2, 6-8, 7-5.

Britain, the defending European champions, had earlier led, 1-0, when M. J. Sangster, its top player, defeated P. Barthe, 6-3, 10-8, 13-11.

A doubles and two more singles remain to be played.
