Seeking Farm Cadets
The Canterbury Farm Training Council is anxious to hear from as many cadets as possible who have undertaken farm training under its auspices to answer a
questionnaire which will help the council evaluate the scheme and make any improvements to it
that may seem necessary.
The secretary of the council, Mr D. H. Crabb, of the Vocational Guidance Centre, Christchurch, said this week that of 61 letters sent out to former cadets about half had been returned because their addresses were not known. But on the basis of the replies received the survey promised to be so worth while that the council was particularly anxious to locate other former cadets.
The questionnaire seeks to find out from cadets what positions they have held since finishing their training course, whether they are satisfied with their lot, whether the farm training course was helpful, suggestions for alterations to the course, and their reasons for leaving agriculture if they have done so.
“The majority of the replies received so far indicate that most of these men are farming or are associated with farming,” said Mr Crabb. “The majority still consider that there is a very good future in farming. The scheme seems to be having quite a reasonable impact.”
