(N.Z.P.A.-P.euter—Copyright)
LONDON, July 7.
Warwickshire’s West Indian fast bowler, Rudi Webster, yesterday shattered Yorkshire with the remarkable figures of 12.4-7-6/7 at Edgbaston. Webster, who had begun Yorkshire’s collapse with four for six on Saturday, took three wickets in 10 balls yesterday morning without conceding a run. Yorkshire was all out for 54. Only twice in all first-class
cricket has a bowler taken seven wickets for fewer runs. The best was seven for three by F. R. Spoffbrth (Australia) against an England XI in 1884, also at Birmingham.
Close of play scores were:— At Hastings: Kent 311 and 137/4 <P. Richardson 59). Sussex 173 (R. Landridge 89; D. Sayer 6/43). At the Oval: Hampshire 321 and 19/1. Surrey 322/5 dec. <M. Stewart 166, M. Willett 77 not out).
