Hunting Gulls

The Christchurch airport authority has applied for a renewal of the licence granted it in March by the Department of Internal Affairs to hunt or kill gulls. The first licence, valid for three months, expired on May 31, The airport manager (Mr A. I. R. Jamieson) said that within the authority of this first licence, 71 gulls were killed from poison laid at the nearby Waimairi county , rubbish pit. This .was the only killing carried out in the three-month period. Since that licence expired the airport had been relatively free of gulls. He added that control measures at the tip had also proved to be effective.
