Warmest Place Christchurch was the wannest of the four main centres at noon yesterday. Temperatures, weather and wind in the four centres were: Auckland, 59 degrees, overcast, rain, north-east 20 miles an hour; Wellington. 51 degrees, overcast, light rain, north 25 miles an hour: Christchurch, 63 degrees, fine, north 10 miles an hour: Dunedin, 61 degrees, north-west five miles an hour.—(P.A.) New Crane The weather, time and tide have so far blocked the attempts of the floating crane. Rapaki, to ship the 70-ton jib and cab section of the first reclamation crane into position on the 30-ton gantry. Both sections are now on the reclamation. The Rapaki has also had other lifts to attend to. Surface conditions must .be right before another attempt is made. Pilots Wanted Trans-Australia Airlines, in a campaign to obtain pilots, has attracted 39 applications in New Zealand so far. It has also advertised in Britain and has received a good response. Rough Seas Rough weather and strong winds off the Canterbury coast caused some inconvenience to shipping at the weekend, although the inter-island steamer Rangatira was not affected. The Kokiri, which left Lyttelton for Westport in light trim Saturday afternoon, returned to the outer harbour early yesterday morning because of bad weather. The Breeze, bound from Timaru to Lyttelton, had a buffeting and arrived several hours late. Unfavourable bar conditions at Kaiapoi forced two small coasters, the Paroto and Waiotahi, to shelter at Lyttelton yesterday afternoon.
