WARM DAY
Road Traffic Heavy Christchurch motorists were out in force yesterday afternoon to make the most of a warm winter day. The temperature reached a maximum of 66 degrees at 2 p.m. at Christchurch airport. Temperatures remained fairly constant during the day. It was 56. degrees at 9 a.m., 63 degrees at midday, and it was 5 p.m. before the temperature fell to 61 degrees. The wind was a light northeasterly most of the day, with a moderate north-westerly for a brief period in the afternoon. Saturday was also warm, with a maximum temperature of 64 degrees and moderate north-easterly winds, but there was not as much bright sunshine as there was yesterday. Traffic on the northern and western outlets of Christchurch was heavy in both directions yesterday . afternoon, a spokesman for the Transport Department said. There , was no trouble but it was 6 p.m. before the flow of traffic decreased. The road to Sumner was busy all afternoon and many motorists had afternoon tea in cars parked with a view of the sea, Where there were heavy breakers rolling in. There vere not many in swimming.
