£300 TAXI TRIP

AUCKLAND, July 5. To bring 23 South Island Rugby players, seven New Zealand Rugby Union councillors, and a referee from Palmerston North, to Auckland by taxi on Friday night cost about £3OO. Seven cabs were required to bring the Rugby party. to Auckland after their flight north had been disrupted
by fog Over Whenuapai. The players and officials, most of whom left’ their homes on Thursday afternoon, arrived • weary and hungry between, 11 p.m. and 1 a.m., about 30 hours after they were scheduled to reach Auckland. Some of the players had not had a substantial meal for 30 hours and had had little sleep in that time.
