Ex-Kiwis In Drawn Match
The ex-Kiwi team yesterday played a team comprising former schoolboy tournament players. The ex-Kiwis, atfer leading 23-10 at one stage, faded over the last few minutes and could only draw. 23-23. The large’crowd at the Show Grounds found a hero in the exKiwi full-back, L. J. McNichol (West Coast), who scored two tries and kicked two goals, one from the centre of the half-way mark.
J. A. Bond played , well in the back Une and received good support from C. Pascell. E. D. Anderson and J. E. Bond. The wing, P. M. White, was the outstanding tournament player, scoring three tries wtih beautiful deceptive running. J. C. Curtain, J. H. Fisher and M. L. Cooke made penetrating bursts through the tournament defence. D. L. Blanchard, although not as fast as in the old days, distributed the ball well from the rucks and gave of his best on attack.
M. J. Worters was the best defensive tournament forward and R. Franklin stood out on attack.
For the ex-Kiwis, McNichol (2), J. A. Bond and Fisher scored tries. McNichol (2), P. J McCreedy and J. E. Bond kicked goals. White (3), K. Chick and J. Raxworthy scored tries and White (2), C. Schwass and Worters kicked goals. Referee: Mr D. C. Wilson.
. Domain Board.—The following have been appointed to control the Greenstreet Ashburton Forks Domain Board:—Messrs A. C. Amyes, R. H. Bell, J. J. Connelly, M. E. Gill, L. W. Hydes. B. M. Murdoch, R. O. Stewart and W. J. Wells. The Ashburton County Council has still to appbint a representative.
