Seven Deaths On Roads At Week-End

Seven people died at the week-end as a result of accidents in various parts of New Zealand.

Double Fatality Two people. were killed instantly when their car struck a power pole near Greytown on Saturday night. They were John Raymond Scott, aged 20, single, a bus driver, of Kurapuni street, Masterton, and Valerie June Tricehurst, aged 23, single, a shop assistant, of High street, Carterton. They were the only occupants of the car. The late model car, driven by Mr Scott, failed to take a bend about a mile north of Greytown on the CartertonGreytown State highway. Child Dies A child died in the Wanganui Hospital at 7.45 p.m. on

Saturday, five hours after he was knocked down by a car while playing on the Main South road. He was Terei Tamehana, aged 3, a son of Mr and Mrs T. Tamehana, of Putiki, Wanganui.' Pedestrian Killed An elderly pedestrian was killed instantly on the New Plymouth-Hawera highway at Midhirst early last evening. He was Charles Edward Zimmerman, in his late 60’s, married, of 63 Opunake road, Stratford, retired. He was walking across the road to catch a bus when he was struck by a car driven by William Charles Lionel McArthur, aged 50, Of New Plymouth.

Death Of Nurse A 17-year-old student nurse died on Saturday at Middlemore Hospital after being in a car accident at Otahuhu in the early hours of the morning. She was Miss Rosemary Josephine Price, of Puhinui. Miss Price was a passenger in a car which hit a telegraph pole., Dunedin Deaths Two men died in the Dunedin Hospital at the week-end from injuries suffered in separate road accidents. They were: George Francis Gillespie, aged 45, of 45 Council street, St. Kilda, who died yesterday morning after a fall from his bicycle in Fawcett street on Friday evening. Kuka Dickson, aged 23, a railway worker, of Matapihi, Tauranga, who died on Saturday morning, after being in hospital for five weeks.

Dickson was the driver of- a car 'which overturned and crashed into a pole near the corner of Andersons Bay and Macandrew roads,, Dunedin, at 3.20 a.m. on May 31'. A passenger, Christine Beverley Walker, aged 16, of Waitahuna, wrs killed in the accident. Mr Dickson had been working in Dunedin.
