TADPOLE FALLS IN TRENTHAM SCHOOL
"The Press" Special Service WELLINGTON, July 1. Tadpole fell after landing over the second fence in a school at Trentham today, but a few minutes later completed the bout in exemplary fashion.
Tadpole (Hely) and John O’Groats (W. Hillis) started at the boards by the seven furlongs, but at the next fence, a brush, Tadpole knuckled over on landing and lost his rider. John O’Groats and Tadpole were put to the fence again annd jumped it safely. They continued over the boards, which Tadpole struck near the top, then, with more speed, completed over a brush and a board fence. At the last two fences, with more speed on, Tadpole jumped perfectly. He was blowing after the school. Braemar (Hely) and Ringlock (Turnwald) jumped the brush fence near the five furlongs and the boards near the three. Braemar did the better, at the first at which his companion got in close, but Ringlock did much better at the second.
Braemar is in excellent condition and is perfectly sound. His trainer, J. W. Winder, considers him better now than when he won the Wellington Steeplechase a year ago.
There were a large number of visitors at the track, but nothing serious was asked of them.
Grand Monarch, one of the 13 horses to arrive from the south, will school tomorrow. All travelled well.
My Contact, Chrisan, To Reign, Harapepe, and G. Cameron’s team, Action Packed, Blissful Lass, Blissful Lad, and Paromac, were also at the track. Chef, which is in the Trentham Hurdles and the Mariri Hack Steeplechase, will start in the hurdles. He will be ridden by K. A. Old.
